Production, directing and editing of a scripted music video for the artist Loren 6, shot in intensive conditions on natural locations.
Rodé
Semester 6 Directing Music Video Art DirectionFor my 6th and final semester in MMIMultimedia & Internet, a versatile programme blending web, video, design and communications, our team (Ronan, Mervin, Timéo and myself) jumped into an intense audiovisual production: directing the music video "Rodé" for artist Loren 6.
The Concept: A journey into the unconscious
The Pitch
The script follows Loren as she escapes a stifling argument with her boyfriend. She gets lost in a metaphorical forest representing her mind, where she chases a mysterious silhouette wearing a red veil. Following it, she tips into a dystopian world where the scenery embodies all her repressed fears and anger. The idea isn't to deliver a story in the classic sense, but to invite the viewer to live an emotional journey.
CRISIS MANAGEMENT:
The production phase was hit by a major logistical setback that forced us to fully rework our initial schedule. The entire shoot had to be planned and executed in a single day. This extreme time pressure required tight organisation, fast on-set reactivity and constant optimisation of our timeline. From managing fluctuating natural light in the forest to setting up atmospheric effects (smoke machine), every technical and directorial decision had to be immediate to ensure the quality of the final deliverable without compromising the artistic vision.Aesthetic & Technique
To make the forest feel OrganicLooking alive, breathing and reacting. and alive as our intent stated, we played extensively with natural elements and light. We shot on a LUMIX S5M2 body with a 24-70mm f2.8 lens. This combo gave us optimal sharpness and a shallow depth of field, essential to isolate the subject within their environment and underline her introspection. Lighting required battery-powered LED panels paired with a softbox, allowing us to model contrasts and sculpt faces, even when the natural setting needed to feel more menacing. Project Outcome
Directing "Rodé" was a turning point in my training. It demonstrated my ability to hold a precise artistic line while facing tough production constraints. It showcases my command of audiovisual tools (from technical breakdown to post-production), my resilience when facing the unexpected, and my ability to thrive within a structured team.
